Breast cancer and P&G orgullosa

When we Latinas get together there’s not one moment of silence because OMG! we can talk right? But since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month,  this Sunday I decided to get together with the ladies in my family and have a constructive conversation instead of “El Chisme” we talked about  the importance of early detection of breast cancer for Latinas.

early detection of breast cancer for Latinas

These are truly scary statistics! Me for example I had my first mammogram last year, although I was only 38 years old my doctor found a cyst on my left breast, thank God everything was fine, but I have to say I was scared for a few days.

That’s why, while eating chilaquiles, drinking mimosas and having fun with some Orgullosa goodies, the ladies and I agreed on how important is self-examination for everyone, but specially Latinas and if you’re over 40 a mammogram once every year.

This an extremely important message and that’s why I joined Orgullosa in the fight against breast cancer. Orgullosa advocates breast cancer prevention by creating an online initiative that encourages women to learn about early detection and participate by giving back to those in need.
For the second year in a row, Orgullosa is teaming up with La Liga Contra el Cancer. For every new “LIKE” received on their Facebook page during the month of October, they will donate $1 towards free mammograms for underserved Latinas.
Orgullosa also has a digital mosaic where you can upload pictures and a personalized caption to honor a loved one affected by breast cancer.

#orgullosa4earlydetection Twitter Party

You can join Orgullosa’s ambassador and lifestyle expert, Evette Rios on Wednesday, October 16th at 8pm ET for a Twitter Party to help spread the word about the importance of early detection and how we can all help support Liga Contra el Cancer, follow the hashtag #orgullosa4earlydetection

  3. Reinaa Pmora says:

Why do you think Latinas are most affected by breast cancer than any other women? por que las latinas no siempre nos hacemos chequeos regulares si sentimos algún dolor lo aliviamos automedicandonos solas

  4. Juliahhh says:

Latinas tend to get breast cancer at younger ages. They are more likely to have larger tumors that may be harder to detect.

  5. Deb K says:

I am not sure why,but how sad. We have Hispanic in our family and I never knew any of this.I am going to have to make sure that all the women get mammograms.
